Arms often sag with age or weight loss. Brachioplasty is the surgical reshaping of the arm, from the underarm region to the elbow. The procedure lifts and tightens up loose skin in the upper arm, resulting in a firmer, more youthful contour.
During the procedure, excess skin is removed. For removal of large amounts of skin, an incision is required that runs from near the elbow to the armpit. The incision is placed in the most inconspicuous location (toward the back of the inner arm), but some scarring will always be visible. More moderate skin removal is sometimes possible with a smaller incision which is limited to the armpit area to try to keep the scar hidden. This procedure is sometimes performed in conjunction with liposuction, which removes fat, contours the arm, and enhances the result.
