Over time, breasts begin to sag due to the effects of gravity. Pregnancy, breast feeding, and weight loss can also cause breasts to sag. A breast lift can return the breasts to their former position, creating a more youthful appearance.
The structures that support the breast are the breast skin and the ligaments that hold the breast to the muscle beneath. The breast ligaments cannot be reliably repaired, so we focus on the skin. Some of the breast skin is removed and the nipple and breast tissue are raised, which results in a lifting of the breasts. Dr. Feldmar performs this procedure on an outpatient basis under sedation and local or general anesthesia. Light activities may be resumed in 7 to 10 days.
If you like the size of your breast post-pregnancy, you may be a candidate for a breast lift. If, however, you preferred the fuller breasts you had during pregnancy, you may be a candidate for a breast augmentation or a breast lift with implants.
